FAQ & policies

Good to know

The things people ask before they book, answered properly. If yours isn’t here, ask us.

Arriving and leaving

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am. Reception is staffed from 8am to 8pm every day.

Arriving after 8pm? Tell us when you book and we'll leave your key in a lockbox with a note, and the lamps on.

Can we arrive early or leave late?

You're welcome to arrive from 11am, leave your bags and have lunch or a walk; we'll let you know as soon as your room is ready.

Late checkout until 2pm is $60, and included in some of our offers. We confirm it the day before, depending on who's arriving.

Is there parking?

Yes, free, on site, for every room. There are two EV chargers in the car park (Type 2, 22 kW), free for house guests. Villa guests can park beside their garden gate.

Booking and paying

Why book direct?

Because it costs less. Booking sites typically charge hotels a commission of 15 per cent or more of the room price, and that cost ends up in the rate. Booked with us, you get our lowest rate every night, free cancellation up to seven days out, and you deal with the people who'll actually welcome you.

When do we pay?

When you stay. We take payment at check-out, by card or bank transfer. We don't ask for a card or a deposit to hold a room booked through this website.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel or change your dates for free up to seven days before you arrive. Inside seven days we'll do our best to re-let the room and won't charge you if we do; if we can't, we charge the first night.

Because we don't hold a card, we ask one thing in return: tell us as early as you can, so someone else can have the room.

Is there a minimum stay?

Two nights for any stay that includes a Saturday night, and three nights over long weekends (Melbourne Cup, Christmas, New Year, Labour Day, Easter and the King's Birthday). Other nights can be booked one at a time.

Are your prices per room or per person?

Per room, per night, including GST. Sunday to Thursday nights are charged at our weekday rate; Friday and Saturday nights, and every night of a long weekend, at the weekend rate. Breakfast is extra unless your offer includes it.

Children

Do you welcome children?

Yes. The Garden Villas sleep four. The Hearth Suites and the Loft each have a day bed for one child under twelve ($45 a night). Babies under two stay free in a cot in any room; ask for one in your booking requests.

The plunge pool is unfenced inside the walled garden, so children need an adult with them at all times.

Dogs

Can we bring our dog?

Yes, in two of the Garden Suites (one dog each) and both Garden Villas (up to two). It's $35 per dog per night, and we provide a bed, bowls and a towel for muddy paws.

Dogs are welcome on a lead in the garden and on the terrace, but not in The Long Room, the library or the pool garden. Please don't leave them alone in the room.

Accessibility

Is the house accessible?

Garden Suite 1 is step-free from the car park to the bed, with a roll-in shower, grab rails, a 520 mm bed and wide doors. The Long Room, library and garden paths are step-free from that side of the house.

The Spring Suites, two of the Hearth Suites and the Loft are upstairs, and the house has no lift. Each suite's page lists its steps, door widths and bathroom details, so you can decide before you book.

Call us and we'll talk it through; we would rather you knew exactly what to expect.

In the house

When is breakfast, and is it included?

Breakfast is served in The Long Room from 8 to 11am every day. It's $35 for adults and $18 for children, and included in the Midweek Escape and The Long Weekend.

Is the pool heated?

The plunge pool in the walled garden is heated from October to April and open from 7am to 9pm. It's small, deep enough to swim a few strokes, and unsupervised.

Is there Wi-Fi, and televisions?

There's fast Wi-Fi everywhere, and a good radio in every room, but no televisions. If you need one for a particular match, ask and we'll find you a corner of the library.

Can we smoke?

No smoking or vaping anywhere inside, on the terraces or in the garden. The fire risk in summer is real.
