An attic bedroom under exposed timber beams, with a stone fireplace and a wide bed

One suite, the whole of the top floor: a long room under the old roof timbers with an open fire, a reading corner in the dormer and windows on three sides.

When we took the ceilings out of the old attic we found hand-adzed beams that had been boxed in for a century, so we built the room around them. The Loft is the largest suite and the most private: there is nobody above you and only the stairwell below.

There is an open fireplace at one end and a day bed in the dormer at the other, long enough for a child under twelve or a very determined afternoon nap.
